Hima-Sella uses MTL4500 Isolators for production line simplification
2009 09 16Systems integration specialist Hima-Sella has been awarded a further contract to manufacture power & distribution panels, within weeks of securing the initial order for instrument racks for a production line expansion project. This £40k order follows the £300k contract, awarded in April by Jacobs Engineering UK, for the manufacture of twelve, open-framed instrument racks for a third Amistar production line (AZ3) for Syngenta, one of the world’s leading agribusinesses.
The instrument rack construction is based on an existing design used on two previous production lines (AZ1 & AZ2). Each instrument rack contains a 40-slot Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS) complete with SIS I/O for safety critical interlocks & Profibus communications. Each DeltaV I/O module interfaces with the hazardous area instrumentation on the plant via MTL 4500 series I.S. barriers mounted on 8-way backplanes. The modular approach greatly simplifies future plant expansion by allowing new I/O to be introduced by plugging an I.S barrier into a backplane, which in turn is plugged into a DeltaV I/O module.
