MTL Instruments, a part of Cooper Crouse-Hinds, is pleased to announce a key development to its class-leading range of F800 Fieldbus power supplies. The F800 series is designed to provide the most cost effective fieldbus power conditioner solution for large fieldbus projects with eight or more fieldbus segments on each system controller.

The new F802 power pack can power eight fieldbus segments at 28-30V, with a design current of up to 500mA/segment. This makes the F802 ideal for applications requiring very long fieldbus segments. For example, in a typical application with a segment consisting of 12 x 20mA fieldbus devices, a 12 way Megablock with one spur in short circuit and allowing 10mA current draw for connecting an FBT-6 Fieldbus Monitor, the maximum trunk cable length with an F802 power module is 1130m compared to 625m with an F801 power supply. This is based on a typical 44 ohm/loop km Type A fieldbus cable and maintaining 13.1V at the fieldbus device as recommended in Fieldbus Foundation AG181 Engineering Guidelines.

The F802 is also ideal for applications using a Fieldbus Barrier as a minimum trunk voltage of 16V is required. For example, in a typical application with a segment consisting of 12 x 20mA fieldbus devices, 3 x 9311-FB Fieldbus Barriers, with one spur in short circuit and allowing 10mA current draw for connecting an FBT-6 Fieldbus Monitor, the maximum trunk cable length with an F802 power module is 680m compared to 390m with an F801 power module. This is based on a typical 44 ohm/loop km Type A fieldbus cable and maintaining 16V on the trunk at the fieldbus barrier.

The F800 series of Fieldbus Power Supplies is designed to provide the most cost effective power conditioning solution for large fieldbus projects with eight or more segments on each system controller. The F801 and F802 fieldbus power supply modules provide redundant isolation, fieldbus power conditioners and even redundant terminators. Therefore, with the F800 series power supplies there are no components on the carrier other than interconnections, thus delivering the highest levels of availability with an MTBF of 7283 years.
